Chemical Reaction Video, Notes & WorksheetFor a chemical reaction to occur, chemical change must occur. What is a chemical change? That is when one compound changes to another compound (one with new properties). For example, hydrogen gas and oxygen gas combine to form water. Another example is a rusting nail. This is oxidation of iron so Fe undergoes chemical changes to form a new compound, Fe2O3.
Video Questions: After watching the above Bill Nye chemical reaction episode, please answer the following:
1. What is a chemical reaction? 2. Give three examples of chemical reaction you observe everyday. 3. Write at least two chemical equations from the examples given in the video. Balance the equation and identify reaction type. Hint: Water formation & Dissociation, Rust formation from iron nail, baking soda (NaHCO3) and vinegar (CH3COOH) reaction, Sodium and Chlorine gas combine to form table salt.
